Senior Instructor – Shihan John Lipari

Shihan John Lipari holds the rank of 8th degree Black Belt.

He began his training in the Budo-Ikkon System of American Karate with Dr. Pavelsky in 1984, in Corona, CA.  He received his Shodan (1st Degree) in Budo Ikkon Karate on October 29, 1986.  In 1987, he opened his own dojo in Riverside, CA and began teaching the Budo Ikkon System.  In 1989, When Dr. Pavelsky retired from full time teaching, Shihan Lipari bought the Corona, CA dojo from him.  In 1992, Shihan Lipari refined the Budo Ikkon system and renamed it American Karate.

Shihan Lipari went on to achieve 6 more degrees of black belt rank within the Budo Ikkon system. He earned his 6th degree black belt rank from Master Ken Penland (Karate), and his 8th degree from IKSA (Independent Karate Schools of America).

He also holds a 1st degree black belt in Judo, from Master Aan Tan.

Since 1989, Shihan Lipari’s California school has grown to over 300 students.  His martial arts programs include training in karate, judo and jujitsu.  Shihan Lipari has promoted over 75 students to their black belt rank.  Several of those students have remained at the school and are actively teaching the American Karate System.

In 2014 he passed the Corona, CA school on to his daughter, Sensei Nicole Lipari and after moving to New York, he expanded the American Karate System to include the AAKS New York school in Ashville, which opened in October 2015. While running the school in New York, he still oversees the continued training of black belts across the system.

Sensei Lipari has been an active supporter of the community as a member of the CPCP (Corona Police Community Partnership) and UNITY (United Neighbors Involving Today’s Youth).

Sensei Angie Lipari, has her 2nd Degree (Nidan) Black Belt from All American Karate School. She has been training with Shihan John Lipari for over 11 years. As husband and wife, they work together in creating a family friendly atmosphere here at the school.

Sensei Angie has mentored many students through their black belt testing process.

Even though she will be running the front desk, you will see her on the floor teaching many classes.

Sensei Genevieve Ellis received her 1st Degree (Shodan) Black Belt rank on May 5th 2012. She has been training with Shihan Lipari for 11 years and has competed in numerous karate tournaments, where she has won many Kata (forms), Weapons Kata and Sparring divisions in her age group.

She is currently studying to get her BFA in Musical Theatre at SUNY Fredonia, and though she has a crazy college schedule, you should see her from time to time teaching classes and helping out at the dojo whenever she can.

Sensei Reagan Ellis received his 1st Degree (Shodan) Black Belt, on May 5th, 2012, at age 11. He has been training with Shihan Lipari since he was 3 and a half years old!

He has competed in numerous karate tournaments across California, and has won multiple divisions in his age group and belt level throughout his years of training.

He is currently a student at Chautauqua Lake Central School, and will be teaching classes at the dojo while continuing to work towards earning his 2nd Degree Black Belt.
